Help Center
Everything you need to build, share, and run a game-day rotation plan with SubPlan FC.
Getting started
Sign in
Sign in with your Google account — there's no separate SubPlan FC password to create or remember.
Create a team, or join one
If a coach has already set up your team, they'll send you an invite link — open it, sign in, and you're in. Otherwise, create your own team from the Team Hub and you become its owner.
Setting up your team
Add your roster
Add each player by name from the team page. You can rename or remove a player at any time.
Set position eligibility
For each player, mark which positions they can play and how strongly to favor each one: Primary (their main spot), Secondary (a regular fill-in spot), or Occasional (backup coverage only). This is what auto-generate uses to build lineups later, so it's worth setting up early.
Build your formation
Define the positions your team actually plays — not locked to a fixed 7v7 or 11v11 template. Group positions into columns so related spots (like your two center-backs) sit together on the board.
Pick your colors
Set a color for each position type and for the board itself, so the lineup is easy to read at a glance. These carry across every game plan for the team.
Creating a game plan
A rotation plan is what you build for one specific game. Start a new one from your team page.
Halves and rotations
Set how many halves the game has, how long each is, and how many rotations to split it into. You can fine-tune individual rotation lengths afterward directly on the board.
Choose who's playing
Pick which players from your roster are available for this particular game — handy when someone's out sick or on vacation.
Game settings
Under Game settings on the plan page, you can set:
- How many players stay on the field each rotation (vs. rotating out)
- Goalkeeper rotation: one GK per half, a new GK every rotation, or assign manually
- Optional rule: a player who just played center mid and stays on the field must move to a defensive spot next rotation
Building the lineup
Auto-generate
Click Auto-generate rotations to fill every rotation automatically, based on each player's position eligibility and your game settings.
Drag players to adjust
Not happy with a spot? Drag any player to a different slot, or to the bench, within that same rotation.
Lock what you want to keep
Click the lock icon on any player to protect their spot — the next auto-generate will build everything else around locked players instead of overwriting them. You can also lock an entire rotation at once from the rotation label.
Undo generate — if you click auto-generate by accident while mid-edit, an Undo generate button appears right next to it. One click restores the board to exactly how it looked the moment before.
Reading the board
Warning flags
A player's name gets flagged if they've been benched too many rotations in a row, or kept on the field too many rotations in a row without a break — a quick visual check for fairness before you lock anything in.
Arrows between rotations
When a player stays on the field between two rotations, an arrow on the board shows where they moved from and to.
Playing time
The Playing Time section shows total minutes for each player, and the Position Breakdown table shows how those minutes split across positions — the fastest way to confirm everyone's getting a fair share.
Getting game-day ready
Print or download
Use Download PDF on any plan for a clean, printable sheet to bring to the field.
Reuse a plan
Use Duplicate on any existing plan to start a new game from a copy of it, instead of building from a blank board every time.
Using it on the sideline
SubPlan FC works on phones and tablets, not just a laptop — sign in the same way and everything's there. The rotation board itself is wide, so on a phone you'll scroll it sideways to see every column; we're actively improving the phone experience further.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a password?
- No — you sign in with Google, so there's no separate password for SubPlan FC to create, remember, or reset.
- Is my team's data private?
- Yes. Only people who've signed in and joined your team through an invite link can see its roster or plans — it isn't public or searchable.
- Can more than one coach work on the same team?
- Yes. Anyone who joins through the team's invite link gets full edit access to the roster and every game plan, so you and your assistant coaches can all make changes.
- What's the difference between the team owner and other coaches?
- Any coach with access can edit the roster and plans. Only the owner — whoever created the team, or claimed it first — can remove another coach's access or delete the team entirely.
- I clicked "Auto-generate rotations" by mistake — did I just lose my work?
- No. Right after auto-generate runs, an Undo generate button appears next to it. Click it once to restore the board exactly as it was the moment before — as long as you haven't made another manual edit since.
- How does auto-generate decide who plays where?
- It places players based on the position eligibility you set for each of them (Primary/Secondary/Occasional), your game settings (like how many players stay on each rotation), and any players or rotations you've locked in place first.
- Can I still tweak a lineup after auto-generating it?
- Yes — auto-generate is meant as a starting point. Drag any player to a different slot or the bench afterward, same as building it by hand.
- What do the warning icons on the board mean?
- They flag a player who's been benched too many rotations in a row, or kept on the field too many rotations in a row — a prompt to double-check playing time before you lock anything in.
- Can I lock specific players so auto-generate leaves them alone?
- Yes. Lock an individual player's slot, or lock an entire rotation at once, and the next auto-generate will build around whatever's locked instead of overwriting it.
- Do I have to use a standard formation?
- No — the formation editor lets you define whatever positions your team actually plays, in whatever grouping makes sense to you. It isn't locked to a fixed format like 7v7 or 11v11.
- Can I reuse a game plan for a different game?
- Yes — use Duplicate on any existing plan to start a new one from a copy of it, rather than rebuilding from scratch each time.
- What happens if I delete a team?
- Its roster and every game plan are removed for everyone with access. This can't be undone, so it's worth exporting anything you'd want to keep first.
- Does this work on my phone during a game?
- Yes — sign in the same way on your phone or tablet. The board scrolls sideways on a phone screen to show every column; we're actively working on making that view even better.
- Is there a cost to use SubPlan FC?
- Not currently — sign in and use it freely.
- I lost the invite link — how do I get back into a team?
- Ask the team's owner or any coach with access to copy it again from the team page and resend it to you.
- I have a question this page didn't answer — how do I get help?
- Email help@subplanfc.com and we'll get back to you.
